Favor Button of 2016 Spring Show
“Studio buttons” are buttons typically made by artists at home or in a small shop. Each Spring Show, the Texas State Button Society offers a special “favor button” designed and made to a specific theme by a studio artist as a souvenir of the show.
The following article describes the favor buttons designed by Waco artist Barbara Francis for the 2016 Spring Show in San Antonio.

2016 Favor Button Designed by Texas Artist - Barbara Francis

Saturday evening at the Spring Button Show 2016 in San Antonio, we waited anxiously for the 7:30 to arrive. We anticipated he evening program which was about the Scrivener Button Cabinet by Sandy Jackson and prove to be a wonderful treat. But also we knew that we were going to see the Favor Buttons and get one into our hot little hands.
We knew two things – materials: pottery and subject: architechtural. Hmmmmmmm. So hard to wait!
Susan Barber protected the box of buttons with the stern demeanor of a Brinks guard. Some members had to be shooed away until time for the big reveal. Please don’t share this with anyone, but since I was helping, I peeked! Shhh!
When the hour arrived, and the doors were flung open, the hordes entered to be seated at tables in the “tearoom” which Sandy created for us. There were “Ooos” and “Aahhs” as we unwrapped the buttons from their envelopes. The buttons were San Antonio Mission doors! Each envelope explains something about the Mission the door belongs to. How fascinating and unique!
Thank you Brazos Button Club for your choice of artist and your hard work in supporting our addiction, I mean hobby.
