Texas Button Connection – Celebrate Mother’s Day

This week we celebrate Mother’s Day through our buttons.  Did you know that Mother’s Day was the inspiration of Anna Jarvis, a peace activist, in the early 20th Century?  It started as a memorial of Jarvis’s mother at the first celebration in 1908.  By 1914, President Woodrow was convinced by Jarvis to sign a proclamation creating Mother’s Day, an official Holiday to be held on the second Sunday in May.  Today Mother’s Day is celebrated in more than 20 countries.

Mother’s Day has become the harbinger of early summer in Texas, marking the weekend when you can safely put away all coats and winter clothes, switching to cotton shirts and skirts and shorter pants.

I remember gathering at my mother’s house in Hamilton, Texas with my 3 siblings and our collection of 10 kids.  What fun!  What’s your favorite Mother’s Day memory?

Mother’s Day Buttons?
It seems to be fairly easy to find buttons of children or young critters.  However, it becomes slightly more difficult to find those having mothers with their offspring.  We found a few. Please feel free to share yours.
